Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy Announces New Triple Album, ‘Twilight Override’ with Four New Tracks

Yesterday (July 15), Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy announced his new studio album, Twilight Override. The triple LP follows his critically acclaimed 2020 release, Love Is the King. To give listeners samples of the three distinct sections of the new collection, Tweedy released four new songs to accompany the announcement. “One Tiny Flower,” “Out in the Dark,” and “Stray Cats in Spain” are available to stream across digital platforms. Additionally, “Enough” is available to stream and will be the lead radio single from Twilight Override.

Tweedy’s sprawling collection could be three distinct albums. However, when taken as a whole, it tells a story of the past, present, and future. Each of the new singles comes from one of the three chapters of Twilight Override, showcasing the sonic and narrative range of the project.

Jeff Tweedy on Twilight Override

Jeff Tweedy shared his thoughts about creating new music and his forthcoming album in a press release. “When you choose to do creative things, you align yourself with something that other people call God,” he shared. “And when you align yourself with creation, you inherently take a side against destruction. You’re on the side of creation. And that does a lot to quell the impulse to destroy. Creativity eats darkness,” he added.

Tweedy went on to say that the world currently offers “Sort of an endless buffet these days–a bottomless basket of rock bottom.” That, he said, is why he has been so focused on creating lately. “That sense of decline is hard to ignore, and it must be at least a part of the shroud I’m trying to unwrap. The twilight of an empire seems like a good enough jumping-off point when one is jumping into the abyss,” he explained.

“Here are the songs and sounds and voices and guitars and words that are an effort to let go of some of the heaviness and up the wattage on my own light. My effort to engulf the encroaching nighttime (nightmare) of the soul,” he said of the album.
