Ashley McBryde Pays Tribute to “Cool Little Bars,” Co-Written with Lainey Wilson

Ashley McBryde is exploring “Cool Little Bars” in her new song. The track isn’t merely a tribute to local dive bars that neighbors like to frequent, but the places where she cut her teeth as a young performer in the early days of her career.

Co-written by McBryde, Lainey Wilson and Trick Savage (the latter of whom she wrote “Bible and a .44” with), “Cool Little Bars” paints a picture of a dive bar through the lyrics. The song features a shuffleboard, cigarette machine and an old jukebox that still pumps out classic songs.

I pray time just forgets to turn places like this/Into drive-throughs and condos/Lord knows we need those little holes in the wall/For lost souls and old stray dogs/God bless two for ones and broken hearts/And cool little bars, she sings in the catchy ditty that features the presence of harmonica to add a nostalgic feel.

“As y’all know, I have a huge appreciation for bars that have stood the test of time and have a lot of character,” McBryde reflects in a statement. “I played them for many, many years, and I’m proud of the education I gained, and I’m proud to be able to give such bars credit for my entertainment style. In a time when so many of our staple establishments are being torn down to make room for far less charming, sterile, and predictable gathering spaces, I thought we’d better celebrate the ones we have left and the ones we’ve yet to warm a seat in…We see you and we need you. God bless cool little bars.”

“Cool Little Bars” is the latest song off McBryde’s forthcoming album, The Devil I Know, set for release on September 8. She’s previously shared the title track, “Learned to Lie,” “Made For This” and her current single “Light on in the Kitchen.” The latter song is in the Top 30 on country radio.
