Boygenius‘ video for their downbeat song features hypnotic imagery and tells the story of a strange romance between two beings, one who appears to be a dog and the other a dog toy. The fanciful video, which comes just in time for the impending Halloween season, has already garnered almost 30,000 views in just a few hours on YouTube.

The video for “Cool About It” is directed by visual artist Lauren Tsai. Tsai recently spoke about the video in a press statement, according to Pitchfork. “‘Cool About It’ is a beautifully melancholic and piercing song that puts words to feelings often unexplained,” Tsai said. “It is an absolute dream to collaborate with the genius that is Boygenius.”

“I made animated videos on YouTube when I was 11 and I cannot imagine something I’d lose my mind over more if I could go back in time and tell myself,” Tsai continued. “I will always be grateful to the band for the many ways in which their work has affected my life.”

Boygenius is a supergroup consisting of Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julien Baker. During a recent interview with NPR discussing their debut album, Dacus opened up about how friendship majorly impacts the group’s songwriting.

“Friendship is something that I think about a lot. My life is defined by my friends. I feel like there’s maybe some good media about friendships, but not a ton,” Dacus said at the time. “Romance also has typical touchstones, whereas every friendship is so unique.”

“I kind of feel like there’s even more there to play with. So why aren’t people doing it? It doesn’t feel like a hack subject,” Dacus continued. “The way that I’ve been writing a lot of love songs recently and I feel myself being like, this is overplayed or this isn’t profound in the slightest, but I can pick any one of my friends and write something that is just completely unique to them.”
