Last night (March 9), fans across the country tuned in to watch Carrie Underwood make her debut as a judge on the season premiere of American Idol. When she’s not in the studio, on the stage, or sitting on the American Idol judges panel, Underwood is down-to-earth. She spends her free time with her kids, baking bread, and taking care of her chickens. Her husband recently bought her 18 new birds for Valentine’s Day. Last night, she had to take special care of one hen who was egg bound.

Underwood took to her Instagram stories to share a photo of the hen, wrapped in a soft towel. “Watched the American Idol premiere. Brought back down to earth with an egg-bound chicken. Hope she feels better in the morning,” Underwood wrote. This morning, she shared an update on the hen. “She’s still kickin’ this morning but hasn’t passed the egg yet. She gets baths and massages, now. Don’t know if they’re helping,” Underwood wrote.

“Egg bound” means that an egg is stuck in the hen’s oviduct. This can become a serious issue for several reasons. Those all stem from the fact that the chicken’s cloaca is blocked. As a result, an egg-bound hen won’t be able to lay any other eggs that have developed inside her nor will she be able to excrete waste.

Carrie Underwood Shares Her Thoughts on the American Idol Premiere

Carrie Underwood didn’t spend her entire night fretting over her egg-bound hen. She took two hours to watch her American Idol debut. Then, she took to social media to share her thoughts on the two-hour season premiere event.

“I hope you all enjoyed the first episode of this season’s American Idol, I know I did!” she wrote in the post. “What an honor to be a part of some epic journeys for some incredible talent,” she added before ending the post with “#blessed #AmericanIdol” and a series of heart emojis.
