“It’s with great sadness that we formally announce the passing of Catherine Vernice Glover- AKA ‘Cat,’” the statement read. “Please allow her children, family and friends privacy at this difficult time.”

The post noted that “a further statement will be released in due course,” before ending with a quote that read, “Dance with the Angels, we love you.”

Glover grew up a dancer and eventually competed on Star Search. Her appearance on the show led to an invite to Prince’s house for dinner where she met the singer.

“Later on that evening, we went out to a club and Prince asked me to dance with him,” she told Housequake in 2006. “After that he asked me if I wanted to be in the group, obviously I said yes!”

Glover joined Prince’s band in 1986. She went on to appear in and choreograph Prince’s concert film, Sign ‘o the Times, hit the road with him on his Lovesexy Tour, and provide the background vocals for his hit song, “Alphabet St.”

Glover left Prince’s band in 1989 and moved to London. She released an EP, Catwoman, the same year. From there, Glover returned to her dance roots, working as both a performer and choreographer. She did reunite with Prince in 1994, rapping on “Cindy C.,” which appeared on The Black Album.

Glover’s death comes more than eight years after Prince died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 57.
