Country Star Will Make His Triumphant Return After Nearly Dying (Twice): “The Devil Couldn’t Keep Me Down, Baby”

Last April, Colt Ford was fighting for his life in intensive care after a heart attack left him clinically dead twice. The country-rap star, 54, faced grim odds when he collapsed following a show at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Gilbert, Arizona. Canceling all scheduled shows, Ford spent the rest of 2024 focusing on his health and recovery. But the “Country As Truck” singer vowed he would return to the stage, and now he will soon make good on that promise.

Colt Ford Is Getting Back To Business

Since news broke that Colt Ford had suffered a heart attack, his fanbase has faithfully tuned into his social media pages for updates on his health. The former pro golfer (born Jason Farris Brown) has posted frequent video updates documenting his progress (and occasional setbacks.) On Sunday (Jan. 21,) he took to Instagram with the best news yet.

“Y’all come check me out. I’m going to be back out on the road this year,” Ford said, grinning broadly. “The devil couldn’t keep me down baby.”

According to his website, Ford will next appear onstage on March 13 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois.

Fans expressed excitement and encouragement in the comments, with one writing, “God is good brother, I’m so excited that you will be rocking the stage again soon. I’ll be there and nothings gonna stop us.”

Another fan expressed, “Best news I’ve heard in a while.”

Ford Nearly Died Twice

Colt Ford pivoted from a professional golf career to one in music when he released his debut album, Ride Through the Country, in 2008. He has teamed up with artists like Craig Morgan, Jake Owen, and John Michael Montgomery.

Unfortunately, the “Dirt Road Anthem” hitmaker had to put his music career on pause after suffering a near-fatal heart attack in April 2024. In an interview with The Big D & Bubba Show, Ford revealed that he had no memory of playing a sold-out show in Phoenix, Arizona.

“I walked out to the bus, texted my fiancée, ‘Hi baby,’ and fell over dead,” he said.

Ford was rushed the intensive care unit at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona before transferring to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. When he woke up a week later, doctors told Ford he had overcome a 0.1 percent chance of survival.

“The Lord has more for me to do,” he said. “I’ve got more music to make and hopefully more differences to make in some people’s lives.”
