And taking a trip back to the 1960s, it all started with the album Hello, I’m Dolly. Throughout the following decades, Dolly wrote and recorded nearly 50 studio albums. And that doesn’t include her collaborations. A true icon when it comes to singing and songwriting, Dolly recently revealed her three favorite songs.

With a career spanning six decades, Dolly sold over 100 million albums throughout her time on stage. But when speaking with The Guardian, the singer had the difficult task of picking her three favorite songs. Again, her discography spans decades and she composed over 3,000 songs. Still, not shying away from the question, Dolly listed the first song. “I think the one that’s most personal to me is the lil’ Coat of Many Colors, because it talks about my mom, my parents and kind of gives you an insight. It also covers bullying, acceptance and all that.”
Still needing two more, Dolly pondered the question momentarily before listing her second favorite being “Jolene.” While covered countless times over the years, it was recently performed by Beyonce, who included it on her debut country album Cowboy Carter. “Of course, the one that’s most recorded is Jolene. That seems to be the favorite – do you know that song has been recorded, somebody told me, 450 times in the last 52 years? I’m so proud of it.”

Dolly Parton Heading To Broadway
As for her third favorite song, Dolly decided to go with love as she insisted, “And I Will Always Love You is one is the great love songs, so I’m very proud of that too.” Although loving what she produced with the song, it ended up in the hands of Whitney Houston, who mastered the song for the hit film The Bodyguard.
While Dolly is a master songwriter, she shared her excitement as she planned to bring her life and career to Broadway. Titled Hello, I’m Dolly, the singer didn’t give away too many details but promised, “You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun intended.”
