Drake Announces New Single Featuring SZA

On Monday (September 11), during a tour stop in Austin, Texas, Drake announced that he would be releasing the lead single this week for his upcoming album For All The Dogs. Although he did not share much information about the song at the time, such as a specific date or title, he finally unveiled some fascinating tidbits about the track on Wednesday night (September 13).

Taking to Instagram, Drizzy posted the cover art for the impending single last night, which uses a photo of Halle Berry covered in Nickelodeon’s patented green slime from the 2012 Kids Choice Awards. Additionally, the Toronto singer-rapper tagged fellow chart-topper SZA in the post, practically guaranteeing that she’d be featured on the song. SZA would soon post the same cover art for the currently untitled bop on her own Instagram page, confirming her inclusion on the track.

It’s fair to assume that this song will come out at midnight ET this Friday (September 15), a week before For All The DogsSeptember 22 due date. What’s most notable about this, though, is that it will see Drake’s first-ever collaboration with SZA.

Though the two have both been dominating pop and R&B scenes for the last several years, their paths have never really intersected that often. In fact, the only time their names have shared headlines was in 2020, when Drake was featured on the song “Mr. Right Now” by 21 Savage and Metro Boomin.

In the song, Drake mentioned that he and SZA shared a romance over a decade ago, which came as a surprise to almost everybody in the music industry.

Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait
‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08
If you cool with it, baby, she can still play

SZA would soon respond to the news, as many fans noted that she would have still been a teenager around that time and worried that Drake was engaging in an ill-advised relationship. Taking to Twitter, SZA cleared the air and removed any suspicion.

“So It was actually 2009 lol,” she wrote. “… in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered lol. I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 [with] wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm… it’s all love all peace. I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening. Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago.”

Since Drake has yet to confirm the title of his forthcoming SZA collab, many speculate that it could be a track titled “Slimed Out Baby (No Good),” which he previewed last year before the release of his joint album with 21 Savage, Her Loss. But, since we’re probably less than 48 hours away from the song’s release, we’ll likely just have to wait and see if the speculation is indeed true.
