Drake Loses $250,000 Betting on Boxing Match

On Saturday night (August 5) in Dallas, actor-influencer turned quasi-pro boxer Jake Paul fought Nate Diaz, one of the most notable names in mixed martial arts in the last decade. Although no knockouts occurred, Paul earned the victory by unanimous judges’ decision, bringing his boxing record to seven wins and one loss. But, while Paul celebrated his win accordingly, Diaz’s loss ended up costing superstar rapper Drake six figures.

The day before the fight (August 4), Drake posted a photo of his betting ticket for the fight on his Instagram story, which showed him wagering $250,000 on Diaz to win. “Jake is a dog but I can never bet against a Diaz brother that’s just how I was raised,” he wrote as a caption.

Once the fight ended, Diaz spoke about the trust he received from Drake before the fight, showing gratitude even in defeat. “Yeah, whatever, shoutout to Drake,” Diaz said in a press conference. “Love for the love, I appreciate it.”

Drake’s bet was made through the gambling site Stake.com, from which Drake reportedly earns $100 million per year in an endorsement deal. In the past couple of years, he’s used Stake to make bets on many popular sporting events and has cashed out quite a few times. Earlier this year, he raked in $1.38 million after betting on boxer Gervonta Davis to beat Ryan Garcia.

“Tell him I need half of that!” Davis joked after his victory. “It’s pretty cool to have people like that believe in me. It made me push even harder, so shout out to Drake and the rest of the people that back me.”

However, the last time he bet on a Jake Paul fight, he reportedly lost $400,000 as Paul experienced his first defeat in his career to British boxer Tommy Fury. After the fight, Paul blamed Drake for cursing him with his bet.

“Fuck, this is Drake’s fault. Drake, bro, why you do this to me?” he joked. “Nah, it’s my fault… $400,000 is nothing to him. He’s won a lot more money on me before. So, he’s probably about even now… Sorry Drake. I’ma get that W in the rematch.”
