Indie Producer James Ford Has Been Diagnosed With Leukemia

James Ellis Ford is the legendary producer behind albums like Lungs by Florence + The Machine and AM by Arctic Monkeys. Sadly, Ford has been recently been diagnosed with leukemia. Per a recent announcement from the producer on Instagram, Ford was diagnosed with acute leukemia. He has begun “aggressive” chemotherapy treatments.

According to the caption of the post, Ford began to feel “rough” around Christmas of last year. Following a few weeks of being ill, Ford received an AML diagnosis.

“It’s a huge shock and while it’s very clear in my mind how serious this is, it is curable,” said Ford in his Instagram post. “And as of today I’m starting pretty aggressive chemo to treat it.
I’m in Barts Hospital, who are world leaders in leukaemia treatments. And I’ve had excellent care from our wonderful NHS, both initially in Canterbury Hospital before being moved here to Barts just last week.”

Ford went on to say that he is “confident, upbeat, and ready to fight” in the face of the concerning diagnosis. He also noted that he expects to be “out the other side” in six to eight months.

Fans Have Been Sending Love to James Ford Following His Leukemia Diagnosis

James Ford also said that since he has been diagnosed with leukemia and needs to focus on recovery, his current music projects will have to go to other producers. He did not note which records or projects he was working on.

“I want to express the deepest possible gratitude to my family, friends and colleagues who have been so supportive at this difficult time,” said Ford. “Particularly my wife Sereen and all the NHS staff who’ve looked me so brilliantly.”

Fans of Ford have been sending him plenty of love in the comments of his Instagram post over the last couple of days.

For those who are not aware, acute leukemia is a type of cancer that tends to affect blood, bone marrow, and blood-forming tissue. The disease can spread quickly and produce a significant amount of “immature” white blood cells in the body. These cells enter the bloodstream and can cause a whole host of problems. 

Symptoms can include everything from bleeding to bone pain to infections. If left untreated, acute leukemia is fatal. However, with modern treatments, many patients are able to increase their survival rate and some patients can even be cured.
