Given the holiday weekend, American Idol decided to make some changes to the show as the Top 20 celebrated Easter with a slew of powerful performances. Kicking off the Songs of Faith episode, the contestants and even the judges took the stage to celebrate Easter. Although focusing only on songs surrounding faith, the night offered memorable performances from contestants like John Foster. While a moment of celebration, the judges and the contestants never forgot what was on the line. And with a new week here, it seems that American Idol will continue its search for the next hit singer.

Having transitioned to two episodes a week, American Idol appeared to blaze through the new season as the Top 20 headed into the Easter special. But barely a day later and the Top 20 will be whittled down to just 14. With six singers going home, the competition continued to heat up as the live shows were just around the corner. Airing a new episode of American Idol tonight, the singers will stand together as they learn who will continue forward in the competition and who will be going home.
While anything can happen when American Idol revealed the Top 14, contestant John Foster shocked fans and the judges when he performed “Tell That Angel I Love Her.” Taking the stage, Foster decided to dedicate the song to his late friend who sadly passed away back in 2022.
Carrie Underwood Praises ‘American Idol’ Contestant For Showcasing Traditional Country
Offering one of his best performances of the season, Carrie Underwood noted how Foster had a unique style that country music desperately needed. “There’s something so wonderfully throwback about your voice, about your style. I think it’s something that’s lacking in country music today, to be honest. We have a lot of outlaw country, we have a lot of new country, and I love that you keep it very traditional. I feel like that’s who you are. I love that in this song we go to hear a sweet, tender side of your voice that honestly I didn’t know you had.”
Fans at home appeared to agree with Underwood as comments included, “It’s really awesome to hear an old style country soul in a young man. Country has many genres, but the classic style is by far the best.” Another person added, “Love this so much , my vote is for him to win it all !!! He’s got a great voice & a lot of talent in telling a story that pulls at your heart strings when he sings ! He’s already a star !! Can’t wait for him to release an album !”
