Jennifer Hudson Recalls Suffering “Jitters” From ‘American Idol’ Fallout

While competing on the third season of American Idol, Jennifer Hudson proved her talents week after week. But as the competition narrowed down the singers, she found herself eliminated, making it into the Top 7. Although devastated over the loss, the singer didn’t let it define her. Continuing to explore a career in the music industry, she not only released several albums but starred in films like Sing and Dreamgirls. She also received an EGOT for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Spending over two decades in the spotlight, Hudson recently shared how she used to get “jitters” from her time on American Idol

Having found success in many different areas of the entertainment industry, Hudson opened up about her time on American Idol. Although her time on the show happened over 20 years ago, she told Parade, “You know, right after I was eliminated, I used to get jitters and be like, ‘Why am I so nervous?’ And it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s Wednesday, elimination days.’ But it’s been some time, so not as much [anymore].”

Could Jennifer Hudson Return To ‘American Idol’

Given the popularity surrounding American Idol, many fans have no idea the pressure put on the contestants week after week. Not only afraid of failing, but each singer had to perform in front of millions of viewers. And that doesn’t include the wave of comments on social media.

Even with Hudson having to work through her past on American Idol, she still held the show close. Although not winning, her time on that stage helped her get discovered. And when wondering if she would ever return, maybe as a judge, Hudson appeared open to the idea. “Definitely! I mean, I think it’s cool because I’ve been a coach on The Voice. American Idol would be wonderful because I think it’d be cool for the contestants to have people who have once been in their shoes.”

While American Idol just welcomed Carrie Underwood to the show as the newest judge, the future could bring back another former contestant. But for now, Hudson remained focused on her show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, and her growing discography. Her last album hit shelves just last year with The Gift of Love
