The highly-anticipated record will mark a return to Gaga’s “darker” visual and musical aesthetic. Some fans are comparing it to The Fame Monster. The album will include 14 tracks, including the previously released singles “Disease” and the Bruno Mars collab “Die With A Smile”. Gaga is also expected to release a third single on February 2. The song it is set to debut during the commercial break at the upcoming Grammy Awards ceremony.
The announcement came from a press release as well as social media posts released by Gaga earlier today.
What Do We Know About Lady Gaga’s ‘Mayhem’?
So far, details on the upcoming record are pretty minimal, other than the release date. Gaga did describe what fans can expect from Mayhem’s sound in a Vogue interview from last year.
“The album is chaotic from a genre perspective,” said Gaga. “It is genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.”
Gaga went on to say that when she creates music, she always draws upon her “knowledge of the history of music” and the artists and producers that came before her. As such, she said that Mayhem will be a celebration of “a lot of the music that made me who I am.” She also noted that the record will boast a darker style of pop music that Gaga was best known for earlier in her career with albums like The Fame Monster (2009) and Born This Way (2011).
In a recent statement promoting the new album, it was also noted that Mayhem won’t necessarily be a “nostalgic throwback”. Rather, it will be a reinvention of her earlier sound with a “kaleidoscopic approach that draws from her expansive musical library while embracing a fresh and fearless artistic perspective.”
Producers Gesaffelstein, Cirkut, and Andrew Watt are listed as producers on the upcoming project release.
Lady Gaga’s last record was Harlequin. That album serves as a companion album to the 2024 film Joker: Folie à Deux, in which Gaga also stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Gaga will also perform at the FireAid Benefit Concern in LA in a few days. Fans can also expect Gaga to headline Coachella later this year.
