Lukas Nelson Evokes George Harrison, David Gilmour With “Ain’t Done” Music Video

Following in dad Willie’s footsteps, Lukas Nelson has carved out his path in the music industry. After eight studio albums with his band Promise of the Real, the 36-year-old singer-songwriter is striking out on his own. Nelson’s solo debut, American Romance, is due later this spring. He already gave fans some insight into the Shooter Jennings-produced record with last month’s lead single, “Ain’t Done.” Now, the newly released music video is evoking a couple of other timeless industry legends (that aren’t his dad.)

Lukas Nelson Drops Solo Music Video

The music video for Lukas Nelson’s solo single “Ain’t Done” dropped Wednesday (April 9.) Nelson shared the news to social media, along with a clip of the video.

One Instagram user proclaimed the song “a teeny, tiny glimpse of Lukas Nelson’s full spectrum.” The rootsy, rock-tinged number turns Nelson’s lens inward as he sings, God ain’t done with you / From the time you’re born to the time you’re through / There’s a guarantee with every evening sun / Nothing lasts and God ain’t done.

Citing George Harrison’s 1970 folk-rock tune “All Things Must Pass” as inspiration, Nelson said, “It gave me that understanding that it’s not for us to know what comes next. Everything changes and nothing stays the same.”

That influence certainly peers through on “Ain’t Done.” On Instagram, one fan noted “George Harrison’s feel,” along with that of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. “And of course your own original style !” they wrote. “I really like this !”

American Romance Is Out June 20

If you only know Lukas Nelson as Willie Nelson’s son, or as the lead singer for Promise of the Real, his first solo effort is about to change that.

Reflecting on American Romance, Nelson said, “This album is the first chapter in a whole new era of my life as an artist. It’s a love story to the country that raised me. Diners and highways that carried me through the joy and pain that led to the music you hear now.”
