The hitmaker found herself rummaging through her closet, which sparked many memories. Each snapshot within the Instagram carousel displays an iconic look from either a note-worthy performance or fashion collaboration.

“A trip to my archives is always a nostalgic trip down memory lane!” wrote the legend. “If I think about my journey through music over the last 4 decades – how could I not think about all the incredible clothes I got to wear and all the amazing designers I was lucky enough to work with!!”

The first photo is of a stage-ready cone bra designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. The powerhouse sported the statement piece on her Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990. She continued to reveal a handful of corsets preserved away in tight-sealed boxes. The final image of the slideshow features a warehouse chock-full of fashion memorabilia.

The “Material Girl” singer recalled her challenging upbringing within the caption. The Michigan native said that her family struggled to make ends meet.

“When I was a little girl, I remember my mother was always cold. Partly because she was sick but also because she never had a coat,” the music sensation wrote. “She always spent what little money we had on our coats, and I remember standing outside waiting for the school bus with my mother shivering in the cold in the middle of winter!!”

While reflecting on her flourishing career and appreciating the expensive garments, Madonna couldn’t help but recall a family member’s words when she finally made it big.

“Years later, when I became successful my mother’s sister said to me, ‘Now you can buy all the coats your mother couldn’t buy herself!” she explained. “The journey from the memory of my shivering mother in Winter to me shivering in the over air-conditioned storage space where all my costumes are stored is quite remarkable!”

The singer-songwriter was one of seven children. She was only five years old when her mother and namesake died from breast cancer in 1963.

“Every time I put on an incredible coat I think of my mother,” shared Madonna. “I hope she likes my taste in costumes, but most of all I hope she’s warm.”

Fans can revisit Madonna’s looks and biggest hits on her upcoming global 2023 celebration tour. The Live Nation-produced 40th anniversary trek will honor her career and take ticket-holders through her “artistic journey.”

“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” said Madonna in a statement.

The historic run is slated to kick off on July 15 in Vancouver, BC, and wrap in December at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, NL. Tickets are available for purchase, here.
