Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Teases New Album: “You Guys Are Gonna Be Excited”

During the 1980s, Dave Mustaine decided to share his love for thrash metal when he started his own band. With thrash metal groups like Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax slowly taking over the airwaves, Mustaine formed the legendary group Megadeth. Over the last few decades, the band gained international fame and released sixteen studio albums. Their last, The Sick, the Dying…and the Dead! hit shelves back in 2022. Taking six years to produce, Megadeth is already hard at work on their new album.

While it’s been only two years since Megadeth released new music, fans shared their excitement over a recent update from Mustaine. The musician revealed, “Right now I’m in the studio working with Chris Rakestraw. And everybody else is gone. Teemu [Mäntysaari, guitars] is in Switzerland and James [LoMenzo, bass] and Dirk [Verbeuren, drums] are in Los Angeles. So it’s just me here by myself with Chris.”

Given the holidays, Mustaine added that engineer Chris Rakestraw was leaving to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. “Chris leaves tomorrow to go on a vacation, and I’m working up to the last second today to get as much done as I can before he takes off because we won’t be starting again until he returns somewhere around New Year’s Day.”

Dave Mustaine Already Pumped For New Album From Megadeth

While celebrating the holidays, Mustaine explained how little time he had before the rest of Megadeth showed up. “It’s only a matter of a couple weeks before everybody converges on to the studio. And for that I’m pumped. And you guys are gonna be excited.”

Members like Mäntysaari already started working on the album even while being away. He admitted, “I’m working a little bit every day. And just today I was working on some solo ideas, and [I am] talking with Dave on the phone every day and doing Zoom meetings and exchanging ideas. So, there’s progress every day, which is nice.”

Although Megadeth discussed the new album, none of the members revealed details about themes or songs. Mäntysaari did say, “I feel really good about the album. We have already so many good ideas. I think it’s gonna be a great one.”
