Boston Calling 2025 kicked off its three-day festival Friday (May 23), with country music hitmakers Luke Combs and Megan Moroney at the top of the lineup. Fall Out Boy, Dave Matthews Band, Avril Lavigne, and Vampire Weekend are some other notable names playing the festival.

While country music fans looked forward to watching both Combs and Moroney perform, they likely weren’t expecting to see the two share a stage. However, much to the crowd’s delight, the two-time Entertainer of the Year invited last year’s New Female Artist winner for an electrifying performance of an early hit.
Megan Moroney Has an Unexpected Connection to This Luke Combs Song
Luke Combs has grown up some during his decade-long career in Nashville, and so has his music. His most recent album, Fathers & Sons, saw the 35-year-old North Carolinian mining parenthood for inspiration instead of partying.
However, before he became a dad to sons Tex, 2, and Beau, 1, Combs skyrocketed to fame with alcohol-soaked anthems like 2019’s “Beer Never Broke My Heart.” Of course, the “Fast Car” crooner busted out the fan favorite during his Friday (May 23) set at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Boston, Massachusetts.
At one point, Combs paused to tell a story. The Grammy nominee told the crowd that he came across a TikTok video of somebody talking about their experience as an extra in the “Beer Never Broke My Heart” video, “way back in probably 2018.” Knowing that person would also be in Boston for the festival, Combs reached out about a duet.
“I don’t know how it’s going to go—I know she’s going to kick ass, so y’all give it up for Miss Megan Moroney!” Luke Combs exclaimed.

Sporting denim cutoffs and a rhinestone-encrusted Boston Red Sox jersey with her name and a red heart on the back, the “Emo Cowgirl,” 27, finished out the song with Combs.
Watch Megan Moroney In The “Beer Never Broke My Heart” Music Video
The video Luke Combs referenced comes from Megan Moroney’s May 15 show in Minneapolis, when the “Am I Okay?” singer revealed a “weird, random fact” about herself.
“I was in the ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ music video. Did y’all know that?” Moroney asked the crowd. “If you literally look on the Spotify canvas, I even made it into the eight seconds. So, that’s exciting.”
Continuing, she said, “I was just, like, supposed to be a drunk girl at the bar. So I’m, like, holding up a fake beer.”
In 2019, Moroney was still an accounting major at the University of Georgia when she and a friend drove to Nashville to be unpaid extras in Combs’ video. If you watch below, you can spot her around the 2:20 mark
