Former Smiths frontman Morrissey cut his show short in Dallas, Texas recently after some overzealous fans rushed the stage during the performance. On Saturday, November 2, Morrissey got through his initial set unscathed. During the encore, however, some fans got excited and climbed up on the stage with him.

While he was performing “First of the Gang to Die,” from the 2004 album You Are the Quarry, a fan climbed up on stage and held his hand. In the fan-captured video, it looks like security helped her up to embrace Morrissey. Another woman then climbed up to hold Morrissey’s hand, and then another. When more people began rushing the stage, Morrissey’s security team spirited him away backstage. He did not return to finish the encore.
There are no reports that the incident was violent, or if it was simply an outpouring of love for Morrissey from loyal fans that got a bit out of control. Currently, Morrissey is on his North American tour. The tour concludes on November 23 in Waukegan, Illinois.

Morrissey on a Smiths Reunion, and Johnny Marr’s Refusal
Morrissey shared some news on a Smiths reunion back in August, posting on his website. “In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and [Johnny] Marr to tour worldwide as ‘The Smiths’ throughout 2025. Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer,” he wrote.
Furthermore, Morrissey stated that he “undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November,” which he is currently on. Marr tours as well, as the post stated, and he “continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”
Rumors of a reunion come with renewed interest in The Smiths which Morrissey is well aware of. He brought attention to the band’s long-lasting fame, stating that “The Smiths do not end.”
“I am well aware of the Smiths’ rise in recent years, and their affirmed position in our cultural heritage. It proves how taking risks can work beautifully … and if you don’t take risks when you make music then what the hell are you doing making music? I am incredibly grateful to anyone who walked out to buy, or who stayed in to download, Smiths’ music,” he wrote on his website. He ended the message with the definitive statement, “The Smiths do not end.”
