Neil Young Documentary ‘Coastal’ to Be Screened in Select Theaters; Film Soundtrack Album Also Due Out

In October 2024, a new Neil Young documentary directed by his wife, actress/filmmaker Daryl Hannah, titled Coastal got its world premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival in Woodstock, New York. The film takes an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the legendary folk-rock artist during his 2023 “Coastal” solo tour.

Now, Coastal is set to be screened in select theaters for one night only, on April 17. In addition, a companion soundtrack album is scheduled to be released a day later.

Young’s Coastal Tour featured 12 solo concerts held in June and July 2023. Nine of the shows were at various California venues, while the other three took place in Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. During the trek, Neil played many songs he’d rarely performed live before.

According to an official description of the movie, “It’s a celebration of living that has been a long time coming, and illuminates up close and personal who Neil Young is, where he came from, and in many ways, where he was going: Coastal.”

About the Coastal Soundtrack Album

Coastal: The Soundtrack will be released on Friday, April 18. The 11-track collection was recorded at several venues during the tour.

The album, which can be pre-ordered now, will be released on CD and vinyl, and via various digital formats. Coastal: The Soundtrack will be available on standard black vinyl and limited-edition clear vinyl.

The clear-vinyl LP will come with an exclusive poster, will only be available online via Young’s The Greedy Hand Store and at independent retailers.

A performance of Young’s 1974 gem “Vampire Blues” from Coastal has been made available as an advance digital track.

The soundtrack album also features versions of three songs from Young’s 1995 collaboration with Pear Jam, Mirror Ball. Other tracks on Coastal include the Young-penned Buffalo Springfield tunes “Expecting to Fly” and “I Am a Child,” and two recent songs Neil recorded with his frequent backing band Crazy Horse—“Love Earth” (2022) and “Don’t Forget Love” (2021).

Neil Young’s 2025 Tour Plans

Young recently announced a 2025 trek with his current band The Chrome Hearts dubbed the Love Earth World Tour. The outing begins with a European leg that currently runs from a June 18 concert in Rättvik, Sweden, through a July 11 performance at Hyde Park in London.

Neil recently announced that plans work in the works to launch the tour with a free concert in Ukraine.

The tour also features a series of shows in the U.S. in Canada. That leg is plotted out from an August 8 show in Charlotte, North Carolina, through a September 15 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
