Earlier in 2024, alternative metal outfit Primus announced an open casting call for a new drummer. It was a bittersweet deal, sadly. Longtime drummer Tim Alexander had left the band quite suddenly. However, his departure presented an open opportunity for fans of the band who happen to be drummers to try and find a way in. Unsurprisingly, the band has received thousands of applicants since then. And a few scammers saw a great opportunity in the casting call as well. According to Primus themselves, the open casting call has attracted the attention of scammer groups who have been trying to get in touch with other applicants, posing as Primus.

The band provided an email address to contact for all of the potential drummer submissions. A few scammer groups have been allegedly preying on those who have submitted their auditions to Primus. Primus has also released a statement via Instagram about the ordeal, warning those who have applied of potential scammer contact.
Who Will Be Primus’ New Drummer?
It could very well be Billy Strings, considering his incredible audition. However, it looks like the “Pork Soda” hitmakers have not selected their drummer yet. In the above-mentioned Instagram post, the band announced that the final day to submit to the Primus drummer audition would be today, December 22.
“As we begin to wrap up the process of scouring the over 5,000 applications we’ve received and we begin to schedule the auditions for later in January, we unfortunately have been plagued by a handful of pranksters who think it is funny to contact some of the applicants on their own and pretend to be a representative from PRIMUS,” the Instagram post reads. “[…] It is our duty here in the PRIMUS camp to at least give a “heads up” as it were, to those who may be duped by these sad individuals who are obviously struggling with their own insecurities and shriveled genitalia.”
The post goes on to note that any contact from Primus in relation to drummer candidates will come from their management team. They also noted that their team will have “confirmation information” within any and all emails sent out to candidates. The band closed out the post with an apology, though we don’t think they need to do anything of the sort.
If you’re applying for the coveted spot… good luck!
