Reba McEntire got her start as a young girl, as part of the sibling group The Singing McEntires, a trio made up of Reba McEntire, her brother, Pake McEntire, and her sister, Susie McEntire. Of course, Reba McEntire went on to have an incredibly successful career in country music. But she isn’t the only one to have success. Pake McEntire also had a bit of success in country music as well.
Although Pake McEntire’s career never became as big as his famous sister’s, Pake McEntire did have a few hits on country radio. In 1986, he released “Every Night”, his debut single, which hit the Top 20. Pake McEntire’s next single, “Savin’ My Love For You”, became a Top 5 hit and the biggest single of his career.

“Every Night” and “Savin’ My Love For You” are on Too Old To Grow Up Now, Pake McEntire’s sophomore record. After “Savin’ My Love For You”, he released “Bad Love”, which hit the Top 15. His final big hit, “Heart Vs. Heart”, became Pake McEntire’s final successful single. That song appears on My Whole World.
“Savin’ My Love For You” begins with, “It happened in a second, it happened in a flash / I looked at you, and you looked back / Honey I knew in my heart I’ve been savin’ my love for you / Savin’ my love for you.” The song was written by Michael Clark.
Pake McEntire and His Career in Country Music
Both Pake McEntire and his sister, Susie McEntire, were also influential in helping Reba McEntire launch her career. The two sang backup for her as Reba McEntire launched her own solo career. While Pake McEntire admits he initially hoped that they could all get a record deal together, it quickly became clear that it was Reba McEntire who would be the big star.
“I was always real supportive and enjoyed all of her accomplishments through the years,” Pake McEntire admits to United Press International. “She’s been singing since 1976 and has had a lot of success, and I knew it would be my turn someday.”
“After the first six months or so during the first separation of The Singing McEntires when she took off and left us behind, we felt a little disappointed,” he continues. “But we were still in favor of her going on and being on a contract. They didn’t want all three of us, they just wanted Reba. And we knew that she could help us when she got her foot in the door. She’s helped me tremendously.”
