Rolling Stones Guitarist Ronnie Wood Selling Prints of His Painting of Queen’s Freddie Mercury to Benefit AIDS Charity

Besides being a fabulous guitarist, longtime Rolling Stones member Ronnie Wood is an accomplished painter whose subjects often include fellow rock stars. Wood now is selling prints of one of his latest works, a portrait of late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

The painting, dubbed “The Mercury,” captures the singer with his first raised in the air, wearing the iconic yellow jacket he donned at a memorable 1986 Queen concert at Wembley Stadium in London. A description of the portrait refers to Freddie as “one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music.” High-quality digital prints of the artwork, hand-signed by Wood, can be purchased for $999 at Ronnie’s online store. Only 250 copies will be available.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of the prints will be donated to The Mercury Phoenix Trust. The charity, which fights HIV/AIDS around the world, was founded in Freddie’s honor following his 1991 death from AIDS by Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor and the band’s manager, Jim Beach.

More About Wood’s Art

Wood also frequently paints portraits of his fellow Rolling Stones members. In addition, he’s known for creating illustrated set lists for all of the band’s concerts, prints of which he sells after each show.

One of his recent creations is a painting of late Stones drummer Charlie Watts that’s titled “Beat.” Wood is selling prints of “Beat” bundled with prints of the set list he created for The Rolling Stones’ final show with Watts. That concert took place on August 31, 2019, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The prints are hand-signed and numbered by Ronnie. The two-print bundles are priced at $1,000.

Watts died on August 24, 2021, at the age of 80.

Wood also recently made available prints of two other new paintings, called “Groove” and “Pulse.” “Groove” depicts Ronnie and Stones bandmate Keith Richards playing guitar side by side, which “Pulse” features only Richards. Both prints are hand-signed and numbered by Wood, and are priced at $950.
