Sam Hunt Avoids Charges After Being Arrested for Speeding and Violating Interlock Device

While producing a promising solo career in country music, Sam Hunt found his footing in the genre thanks to his writing abilities. Throughout the early years of his career, the singer wrote singles for Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, and even Reba McEntire. Looking at his own songs, Hunt produced hits like “Body Like a Back Road” and “Take Your Time.” Although continuing to expand his stardom, the country star recently found himself on the wrong side of the law yet again when arrested for speeding and violating an interlock device.

Hunt’s troubles started last week when police pulled him over in Henderson County, Tennessee. According to police records, the arrest took place on January 20th when authorities noticed the singer driving too fast. Pulling him over, the police eventually took him into custody and charged him with speeding and somehow violating an interlock device.

For those who might not know, an interlock device is a piece of equipment that disables a car until the driver passes a breathalyzer test. Most of the time, the device is installed when a person has prior issues with driving while drunk.

Sam Hunt History Facing Law Enforcement

Looking to Hunt’s past, the singer once again found himself in custody back in 2019 for a DUI. Spotting Hunt driving on the wrong side of the road in Nashville, police found the singer’s blood alcohol level to be .173. That is twice the legal limit. Facing a judge, Hunt pleaded guilty and was forced to spend a few days in a DUI Education Center. While following the order, Hunt also lost his driver’s license for an entire year.

At the time, Hunt owned up to his mistake, explaining in an interview, “It’s not that I don’t drink at all, but I put myself in a position by being out, seeing friends at a show, leaving my phone in an Uber. We’d Uber’d all night, then went back to a friend’s house, had some pizza. I fell asleep on the couch, woke up groggy. I should’ve been more conscious, but I wasn’t. So I take responsibility.”

As for his current incident with law enforcement, it seemed Hunt walked away a free man. While having to pay a $1,500 bond and a speeding ticket, a representative revealed the singer’s lawyer “cleared the paperwork in court this week and there will be no charges.”

While in the clear, it is still a mystery how Hunt was able to start the vehicle without passing the interlock device test.
