Shaboozey on the Massive Success of “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”
Shaboozey had a massive hit with “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” It spent 19 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, breaking a record on the all-genre survey. It was the song of the summer and hasn’t gotten any less play since the temperature started dropping.
Earlier this year, the hitmaker spoke to Variety about the success and impact of the song. “It has an American feeling to it, that feeling when you think of apple pie,” he said of the track. “You got construction workers, firefighters, teachers, everybody just holding their drink up, arms around each other’s shoulders, having a damn ball. That’s America,” he added.
The idea for the song came to him during a studio break. He played J-Kwon’s 2004 club banger “Tipsy” and the magic happened. “My two producers picked up the guitar, started playing the chords, and then we started writing it,” he recalled. “I sang, ‘They know me and Jack Daniels got a history,’ and everyone was just like ‘F**k,’” he added.
“It was definitely a lighting-in-a-bottle thing,” he said of the songs creation.
