Dierks Bentley is praising his longtime pal. During an interview on Audacy’s Katie & Company, the country singer gushed over Miranda Lambert, both as a person and a musician.

“I’ve just known her for so long. She’s still the same person she was back then,” Bentley said. “She’s still so fun to be around. Just says whatever’s on her mind.”
On a professional level, Bentley had even more kind words for Lambert.
“She’s just one of the greatest singers,” he said. “She’d hate for me to say this, but she’s a future Hall of Fame member. That makes you sound old, but she’s going to be the Country Music Hall of Fame. She’s just all time. She’s so great.”
Dierks Bentley Talks ‘Broken Branches’
With all the flattery, it’s no surprise that Bentley tapped Lambert for “Never You,” a duet on his latest album, Broken Branches.
“I’ve always wanted to have a pure kind of duet,” he explained. “… We had, on my bluegrass record a few years back, I guess about 10 years ago, we had a song with Jamey Johnson. We had a three-way song. We’ve never had this, the two of us.”
“So this track ‘Never You’ with her is just so fun to have her run on that song,” Bentley continued. “… So happy to have her on that track… She’s perfect for it. I’m so thankful she did it. I really am.”
Elsewhere on the LP, Bentley teamed up with Riley Green and John Anderson for the title track.
“I heard that song, ‘Broken Branches,’ I thought of him,” Bentley said of green. “I thought he’d be great for it. He’s a broken branch. He’s a little bit different… I just thought he’d be perfect for that song.”
When Bentley heard Green in the studio, the thought of including Anderson on the track suddenly occurred to him, as the singer is the “ultimate broken branch off the family tree.” After a phone call, Anderson agreed to participate and got in the studio a few days later.
“He couldn’t have been nicer about it,” Bentley said. “… It was so fun to be around those two guys and have the three of us together on a track. What I love about it was it was super organic. It wasn’t something that was planned out at all.”
As for how he feels now that Broken Branches is out in the world, Bentley admitted that it’s “kind of surreal to have it be done.”
“You spend so much time working on the album… then once it does come out, it’s kind of feels pretty final,” he said. “… Once you put the album out it’s really out and everyone can access every song. It feels pretty great. I’m really happy to have it out there.”
