“That’s My Problem”: Ariana Grande Gets Real on Why She’ll Never Do ‘The Voice’ Again

Ariana Grande’s career has swung a wide arc from Broadway star to Nickelodeon regular to full-blown pop diva. In 2021, the “yes, and?” sensation, 31, made a brief detour as a coach on The Voice. Grande occupied her big red chair alongside Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend during season 21. And despite becoming the highest-paid coach in the show’s 13-year history, the two-time Grammy Award winner has no plans for a comeback.

Ariana Grande: “I Get Too Emotionally Attached”

First airing in 2011, The Voice links budding artists with established stars in the music industry. During the season, these coaches guide their teams through a series of performances as they, too, vie for the crown.

The Voice isn’t named after Ariana Grande, but it very well could be. The “God Is a Woman” hitmaker has ridden her powerhouse vocals and captivating stage presence all the way to nine No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. Unfortunately for Voice fans, the Wicked star just too good at establishing a bond with her artists.

“I got so emotionally attached to everyone. That’s my problem,” Grande said during a recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast.

She continued, “I can’t really do that because I really get in. I really get in there with everyone… I love meeting people, and I’ve felt so invested.”

Not that she’s had trouble finding work. Grande’s seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, scored three Grammy nominations after its release in March 2024. Additionally, she stars as good witch Glinda in the upcoming film adaption of the Broadway musical Wicked.

Gwen Stefani “Feels Guilty” About Beating Reba on ‘The Voice’

The Voice has cycled through several coaching rotations since Ariana Grande exited the show after season 21. The current lineup for season 26 brings newcomers Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg into the fold, along with veterans Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani.

During Monday’s (Nov. 11) episode of the Battle Rounds, Team Snoop’s Jake Tankersley found himself debating between McEntire and Stefani after both coaches smashed their Steal button. Tankersley ultimately chose Stefani, and the former No Doubt frontwoman admitted to feeling “guilty” about besting the “Queen of Country.”

“I think she’s mad at me!” Stefani joked.
