2025 marked a major year for Nikki Sixx, who got his start in the music industry back in 1975. Over the last five decades, he performed in groups like Sister and even performed alongside greats like Meat Loaf, Alice Cooper, and Drowning Pool. But among his promising career, Sixx will always be remembered for his time with Mötley Crüe. Embracing the lifestyle of a rockstar, Sixx not only helped form the band, but he also enjoyed the extracurricular activities that included a great deal of alcohol. But thankfully, the musician eventually decided to get sober. And besides celebrating 50 years in music, Sixx also announced he had been sober for 25 years.

For most who struggled with sobriety, hitting 25 years appeared almost impossible. But on Wednesday, Sixx posted a picture of his 25-year coin on Instagram. He wrote, “Today, I take a moment to reflect on how sobriety—and the willingness to confront my past—has completely transformed my life. Sobriety isn’t just about eliminating substances; it’s about the ability to be honest with yourself and those around you.”

Nikki Sixx Accepts The Challenge Of Staying Sober
While celebrating the moment and looking back on the years, Sixx insisted it wasn’t easy. “I’ve experienced profound joy, but not without significant challenges. Through this journey, I’ve learned how to navigate adversity with grace and how to be truly selfless.”
With Sixx knowing that some ultimately lost their fight with alcoholism, he remembered the wise words of a sponsor. “I’ll never forget something a sponsor told me after a fellow addict passed away. He said, ‘Some people have to die to teach the rest of us how to live.’ That broke my heart—and reminded me just how important this journey really is.”
While the urge to drink will always be present, Sixx found some sage advice from a copy of Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations. “Practice what seems impossible.” Keeping that quote close, the musician concluded, “I accept the challenge.”
Gaining over 25,000 likes, fans filled the comments with love and support for Sixx. Some even considered him an inspiration to those who are just starting their path to sobriety. “You are an inspiration to many and it’s an honor to call you a friend. Keep crushing it.”
