Marking their ninth appearance on the show, Foo Fighters are the scheduled musical guests on Saturday Night Live airing Saturday (October 28) on NBC. In a new promo for the upcoming episode, the band got into the Halloween spirit with first-time host and comedian Nate Bargatze, who introduced himself and musical guest Foo Fighters.
“Or should we say ‘Boo Fighters?’” said cast member Marcello Hernández switching up the band’s name. “What?!” yelled Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl.

“Because it’s Halloween, you know, like ‘Boo Fighters?” responded Hernández.

“You know what man?” said Grohl, “that’s the best idea I’ve ever heard.”
Foo Fighters first performed on Saturday Night Live on December 2, 1995, and performed “I’ll Stick Around” and “For All the Cows” on the episode, hosted by ER star Anthony Edwards.
The band went on to perform on SNL seven more times with their most recent appearance—along with host comedian Dave Chappelle—on November 7, 2020, when they performed “Times Like These” and “Shame Shame.”

Grohl first appeared on Saturday Night Live with Nirvana on January 11, 1992. Hosted by actor Rob Morrow, the band performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Territorial Pissings” as musical guests.
Nirvana made a second and final appearance on SNL on September 25, 1993, with host Charles Barkley and performed “Heart-Shaped Box” and “Rape Me.”
In addition to his appearances with Foo and Nirvana on Saturday Night Live, Grohl also joined musical guests Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 1994. He also performed on SNL with his supergroup Them Crooked Vultures in 2010 and has appeared in several sketches throughout the years.
Bargatze and Foo Fighters’ appearance follows the second episode of SNL season 49 on October 21, which featured Bad Bunny, who served as host and musical guest. On the episode, Lady Gaga also made a surprise appearance introducing Bad Bunny’s performance, along with Mick Jagger, who starred in two skits with the reggaeton rapper.
Saturday also marks the first time Foo Fighters will perform on SNL following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022. In the spring of 2023, Foo Fighters returned on tour, the band’s first live dates since their two tribute concerts for Hawkins in late 2022, and their first with new drummer Josh Freese.
