You (Yes, You) Can Own Johnny Cash’s Memphis Home For Under $500K

As Bob Dylan said while delivering a captivating eulogy for his good friend, Johnny Cash ” is forever.” With his rich baritone voice and wrong-side-of-the-law persona, the Man in Black’s legacy still lingers more than 20 years after his death. And now, for the low, low price of $495,000, you can walk the same halls Cash once did.

Johnny Cash’s Home Is Up For Sale

In 1950, Johnny Cash left behind the cotton fields of his childhood home in Arkansas and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge four years later, he married his first wife, Vivian Liberto, in San Antonio, Texas. The newlyweds then headed for the big city—Memphis, to be exact.

Earning money by selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door, Cash lived in several spots during his time in Memphis. One of those spots was a one-story house at 5676 Walnut Grove Place on the city’s east side. And now, for just under half a million dollars, you can claim a piece of country music history.

Built in 1959, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home boasts a new roof, new water heater, new granite countertops, and more, according to Zillow.

“Walk the line to your new home—Johnny Cash’s iconic place is now up for grabs!” the listing reads. “Don’t just visit the past—own it, with Johnny Cash’s former home.”

Listed Feb. 8, the historic home had already garnered nearly 30,000 views on Zillow. Chances are, it’ll sell fast—so get your bids in quickly.

According to Jonesboro KAIT, Cash and his wife Vivian lived in the home with daughters Kathy and Rosanne before it was sold in 1960.

Current Resident of Former Cash Home Didn’t Know Its History

Imagine quite literally living inside musical history. Well, Memphis resident Kyle Teal doesn’t have to imagine—although he didn’t quite know what he was getting when he moved in.

During his time in Memphis, Johnny Cash also lived in a duplex in the 2500 block of Tutwiler Avenue in Binghampton. Teal recently moved into that property with zero knowledge of its storied history.

“I think that is really cool,” Teal told WREG. “I remember a picture of him, but he’s not from my time. So I might know a song or two, but I don’t know much about him at all.”

What an incredible learning opportunity.
