Country music in the 1960s boasted a certain flair. It was classic in the moment. The voices were meaningful, deep, and rich. And many of the songs of the day were so well-made that they have since stood the test of time.
And that’s just what we wanted to highlight here below. We wanted to explore three songs from back in the day that remain in our lives today. Indeed, these are three country songs from the 1960s we hear all the time in shopping malls and grocery stores.

“Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash from ‘Ring Of Fire: The Best Of Johnny Cash’ (1963)
You can’t go wrong with Johnny Cash. And shopping malls and grocery stores know it. Indeed, stores from Maine to Alaska will play Cash on their overhead speakers because they know their patrons will appreciate it. Whether you’re a country music fan or not, we all have our associations with The Man In Black. Maybe it’s his recordings from various jails, maybe it’s his early songs with that railroad-ques chunking guitar, or maybe it’s his song about a ring of fireโwhatever it is, Cash has many fans. So, look for his stuff next time you head out to the grocery store or your favorite local mall.
“Crazy” by Patsy Cline from ‘Showcase’ (1961)
Patsy Cline is another country artist who boasts a near-100-percent approval rating. Her voice is sumptuous; it fills up a room like a high-class buffet. Whenever Cline sings, it just feels like a special occasion. It feels classy. So, next time you walk into the Gap or Barnes & Noble, keep your ears perked for a song like the 1961 classic, “Crazy”. While it was written by Willie Nelson, Cline surely made it her own. It will sweep you off your feet as you look for new socks or a book of poetry.
“Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette from ‘Stand By Your Man’ (1969)
This swelling tune has enjoyed a lot of fans over the years. While the song is loving and supportive, it was likely born from a more difficult moment. But that’s just why Tammy Wynette sings so meaningfully about forgiveness. She really believes in it. Human beings are imperfect; we all make mistakes. But if love is supposed to mean something, then spouses might be better off helping each other through those tough times. That’s Wynette’s advice anyway. So, stand by your man. Stand by your woman. And while you wait in line for the cashier, remember that this track told you so!
