49 Winchester’s Isaac Discusses “Miles to Go”

49 Winchester frontman Isaac Gibson revealed the story behind “Miles to Go” and why it didn’t make Leavin’ This Holler in a press release. “Sometimes a song just writes itself, and this was one of those songs. I wrote it between cities, somewhere on some distant stretch of interstate, in a matter of a couple of minutes,” he recalled. “It’s a leaving song, which seems to have been a big theme on our new album. It was initially a part of Leavin’ This Holler, but it wound up being left off for the record to fit on vinyl,” he added. Fortunately, the freedom of streaming platforms allows fans to hear this song now. Better late than never, as they say.

Gibson also talked about the song’s placement on the final episode of Yellowstone. “For me, there is no better way to debut it than in the final season of Yellowstone,” he said. “It’s always such an honor to have the art and sounds that you’ve created put on display in television and film, and Taylor Sheridan has given us, and so many other off-the-centerline country acts, a great platform to do that,” he added.

Yellowstone has featured several independent and up-and-coming country and Americana artists throughout its five-season run. Now that the saga of the Dutton family is coming to an end, 49 Winchester and a handful of other top-tier artists will provide the music to give the beloved series a proper sendoff.
