Formed during the 1980s by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Metallica took over heavy metal when they released the band’s album Master of Puppets. The following decades brought the band a mountain of success with over 125 million albums sold. Continuing to perform and tour, Metallica decided to embrace the holiday spirit when wanting to give back. And what better way than a performance? That is exactly what the band did as they performed rare songs like “Low Man’s Lyric” at the Helping Hand benefit concert.

Although performing on some of the biggest stages in the world, Metallica loved performing at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. The proceeds from the benefit concert went to help the All With My Hands Foundation. According to the mission statement, the organization “aims to assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band for years, as well as encourage participation from fans and friends.”
Wanting to make the concert a special occasion, Metallica decided to dig deep into the band’s discography and play some classics like “Low Man’s Lyric” off of their ‘Reload’ album. Masterfully making their way through the song, fans commented, “Core memory unlocked. Legit forgot about this one for 20+ years. Appropriate winter song.” The fan wasn’t lying, as Metallica had not performed the track live since 1998.

Metallica Went Back To The 90s With “Fuel”
Another hit song performed by Metallica included, “Fuel.” Released on the Reload album back in 1997, the song landed the band a nomination at the Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1999. Although they lost, the song proved the masterful talents of Metallica.
Although performing on stage for decades, back in June, Hetfield revealed he continued to struggle with anxiety. Having stood in front of millions, he said on The Metallica Report, “The mind is the enemy most of the time.”
Going deeper into the power of the mind, Hetfield noted he stayed aware of his anxiety. “Just trying to avoid that overthinking and then just stream of consciousness – just be connected to a higher power or whatever you want to believe in. That what’s supposed to come through me is supposed to right at that time, and not will it to happen.”
