Peter Frampton, Vince Gill, Steve Earle Performing at Nashville Tribute Concert for Late Rock ‘n’ Roll Guitar Great Duane Eddy

Peter Frampton, Vince Gill, and Steve Earle are among the music stars who will pay tribute to late rock ‘n’ roll guitar legend Duane Eddy at an April 13 concert at the Opry House in Nashville.

The show, dubbed “Titan of Twang: A Celebration of Duane Eddy,” also will feature performances by Joe Bonamassa, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Buddy Miller, Molly Tuttle, JD McPherson, Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom, and famed British session guitarist Albert Lee. Veteran singer/songwriter Jim Lauderdale will host the event, and additional performers will be announced soon.

The event’s house band features a number of noteworthy musicians. They include original E Street Band bassist Gary Tallent, founding NRBQ keyboardist Terry Adams, longtime Mark Knopfler guitarist Richard Bennett, and sibling gospel group The McCrary Sisters.

About Duane Eddy

Eddy, who died in April 2024 at age 86, was the most successful instrumental artist in rock ‘n’ roll history. Famous for his twangy guitar sound, Duane scored 16 Top-40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 from 1958 through 1963.

Among his best-known tunes are “Rebel-’Rouser,” “Forty Miles of Bad Road,” “Because They’re Young,” and “Peter Gunn.”

Later in his career, Eddy recorded an updated version of “Peter Gunn” with British synth-pop group The Art of Noise that became a Top-10 hit on the U.K. singles chart in 1986. The track won a Grammy Award in the Best Rock Instrumental category in 1987.

Eddy was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2008.

Eddy died of cancer on April 30, 2024, in Franklin, Tennessee. Many well-known guitarist credit Duane’s music and style for influencing their own playing, including Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, George Harrison, The Kinks’ Dave Davies, John Fogerty, Knopfler, Earle, and Marty Stuart.

On August 6, 2002, Eddy performed on the same bill with Frampton, Tallent, and Albert Lee at a concert celebrating what would’ve been the 85th birthday of Buddy Holly. The show took place at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences in Lubbock, Texas—Holly’s hometown.
