“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” she wrote. “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”
Shakira noted that she’s “very sad to not be able to take the stage today.”
“I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru,” she said, before expressing her hopes to get back to work soon.
“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform. My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you,” Shakira wrote. “Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all.”
Shakira is currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. The tour kicked off on Feb. 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After a second show in Brazil, Shakira headed to Peru, where she was hospitalized.
Shakira was scheduled to perform both Feb. 16 and 17. The fate of her planned Monday show has yet to be announced.
After she departs Peru, Shakira will perform shows in Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, before wrapping her tour in the US. The final show of her tour will take place June 30 in San Francisco.
Shakira Finds Success With Her Latest Album
The tour is in support of Shakira’s album of the same name, which documented her highly-publicized divorce from Gerard Piqué. The album was a commercial and critical success, winning the Best Latin Pop Album award at the 67th GRAMMYs.
Additionally, she performed at the ceremony for the first time in nearly two decades. Shakira rocked the stage with an unforgettable performance complete with belly dancing.
She wowed with her 1998 hit, “Ojos Así,” followed by her viral Bizarrap collaboration, “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” which appeared on her latest album.
