Rory Feek’s Daughter Hopie Reveals What It Will Take to Heal Their “Broken” Relationship

The turmoil within the Feek family has been public for months now. It started when Heidi and Hopie, daughters of country artist Rory Feek, accused their dad of neglecting their younger special needs sister. Their back-and-forth appeared in posts on blogs and social media. More recently, Hopie revealed that Feek is not her biological father. However, she’s still open to rebuilding her fractured relationship with Feek but says the only way it will happen is with family therapy.

Hopie Feek on Her Relationship with Rory Feek

Hopie Feek told People that her recent announcement about her biological father is not the reason she and Rory Feek don’t have a healthy relationship. She also noted that there is a way forward but Feek refuses to take it. “My relationship with my dad is broken. Not because of this new revelation, but because he refuses to go to family therapy,” she explained.

When Hopie told Feek he wasn’t her biological father, he posted about it on his blog. This wasn’t the first time he shared a deeply personal conversation on his blog. “Him taking the two most vulnerable conversations of my life–coming out to him and telling him we’re not biologically related–and publishing them to the world, is something we need a professional to help us navigate,” she said.

It wasn’t that Feek shared the news that he and his daughter weren’t related in his blog. Instead, the specifics he shared with the public bothered Hopie. “In his post, he managed to call my mom a liar and made it seem like she didn’t want to be in our lives,” she said. “It was also hurtful that he said he was ‘frustrated’ when he found out I was going to be born. Like I was always unwanted,” she added. “I tried to be as upbeat as possible in my announcement, hoping to find a positive path through this difficult situation.”
