Shakira’s Feb. 24 show in Medellín, Colombia, was postponed after “the stage roof installed by the local production suffered damage that puts the safety of the artist, her staff and most importantly, the audience at risk,” concert promoter Páramo Presenta tweeted.
The promoter added that they are working with Shakira’s team to schedule a new date in the future.
“We understand that this decision may be upsetting for the audience who was eagerly waiting for the show, but the most important thing is the safety of everyone,” the promoter wrote.
Shakira spoke out about the decision on X, writing, “My people of Medellín! It hurts me a lot not to be able to go on stage and sing for you with the desire that I had.”
“My children were excited to visit Medellín, and I was excited to meet you again and share all the surprises I had prepared for them,” she added. “I am very sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who have traveled. It’s out of my hands and those of my production team, but I’m sure we’ll soon find a new date to celebrate together.”
The “Waka Waka” singer noted that she’s “always grateful for the unconditional support you give me.”
“I love you very much and I hope to see you very soon,” she concluded.
Shakira’s Tour Is Off to a Dramatic Start
Shakira is currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. The tour kicked off on Feb. 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The postponed concert comes one week after Shakira was hospitalized for an abdominal issue in Peru. While she missed the first show in Lima, Shakira performed the second planned concert in the country the following night.
Afterwards, Shakira performed in Barranquilla, Colombia, for two nights. Medellín was the next scheduled stop, but instead Shakira’s next show with be in Bogotá, Colombia, on Feb. 26.
The tour is in support of Shakira’s album of the same name, which documented her highly-publicized divorce from Gerard Piqué. The album was a commercial and critical success, winning the Best Latin Pop Album award at the 67th GRAMMYs.
