As previously reported, Coastal gives an intimate and candid look at Young during his 2023 Coastal tour, which marked his return to the road after a four-year break.
“It is a beautiful film, full of wonderful images I love, the venues I chose to play solo, performances of rare songs … and the feeling,” Neil explained in his message. “Daryl’s images and the music she chose to use really create a feeling that I have never felt in one of my films or albums.”
Young also noted that he performed both old and new songs during the trek, adding that they were “rare, inasmuch as I had never played many of them live.”
He added, “They seemed so fresh to me, as did the whole experience of being in front of people for the first time in years.”
Regarding Hannah’s directorial skills, Young wrote, “Daryl captured that whole feeling, travelling on the bus, riding down the highway from town to town, backstage, talking with [my bus driver] Jerry Don … as we roll along. All in all [it’s] a great ride on my old bus.” As a side note, Neil revealed that he’d recently wrote a new song about the bus titled “Silver Eagle.”
Neil also praised his wife’s “great camera work,” which, along with “the music so alive in me, [and] the beauty of the architecture… she captured, really made this a special moment in my life.”

The album, which can be pre-ordered now, will be available on CD and vinyl, and via various digital formats. Coastal: The Soundtrack will be available on standard black vinyl and limited-edition clear vinyl.
