With her Southern charm and powerful voice, Breanna Nix quickly won over Carrie Underwood with her American Idol audition performance of the season 4 winner’s hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” A stay-at-home mom from Denton, Texas, Nix has consistently won over viewers all season covering songs like Kelly Clarkson’s “The Trouble With Love Is.”

Today (Sunday, May 18) the season 23 finale of American Idol has finally arrived. And Nix, who didn’t even expect to score a Golden Ticket to Hollywood, is still here. The singer-songwriter must outsing fellow Top 3 finalists John Foster and Jamal Roberts to become the show’s second female winner in as many years. Making her case for that title, Nix performed another faith-based song and a Miley Cyrus classic.
Breanna Nix Sings For Her Life on ‘American Idol’
Taking the stage for the final time on American Idol, Breanna Nix belted “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” by Christian singer-songwriter Katy Nichole.
“Every one of you in your own lane has a career forever,” declared judge Lionel Richie. “Stay on your path.”

Songs displaying her Christian faith have become something of a staple for the Denton, Texas artist, 25. She’s also performed Lauren Daigle’s “Still Rolling Stones” and Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude,” among others.

However, Nix’s son Emerson seemed less than impressed with his mom’s first Top 3 performance. As she sang, the camera panned to the little boy sleeping in the audience.
Breanna's son is like… I love my momma but listen, I need my zzzz's. #AmericanIdol

For her second performance of the night, Nix selected Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.” Recorded in 2009 for Hannah Montana: The Movie, the song perfectly sums up Nix’s Idol experience. Ain’t about how fast I get there, she sang. Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side / It’s the climb.

What’s Next After ‘Idol?’
Ahead of Sunday’s American Idol finale, Breanna Nix shocked fans by releasing a brand-new single, “Higher.” And regardless of tonight’s results, she says there’s plenty more where that came from.
We’re gonna get some songs out there,” the American Idol finalist told Dallas news outlet WFAA. “We already have a couple that are just kind of waiting.”

She continued, “And once we’re done and over, it’s gonna be out there and we’re gonna hopefully be soaring across the moon and seeing everybody and singing and worshiping together. That’s my main goal is, I want to hug people and give hope in their life and just go out there and start touring.”
