Thanks to his stance, thoughts, and actions, President Donald Trump has come under a great deal of criticism since taking office for a second time. Never holding back when it came to his speeches and decisions within the White House, numerous artists and celebrities lashed out at the White House administration, including both Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen. With Trump and Springsteen recently making headlines over their brash statements, Young tried a different approach when he invited the President to his concert.

Expected to go on tour this Summer, Young looked forward to entertaining and meeting his fans. But it seemed that the iconic singer wanted to do more as he wrote on his website, “When I tour the USA this summer, if there is not martial law by then which would make it impossible, let’s all come together and stand for American values. We will not be doing a political show. We will be playing the music we love for all of us to enjoy together. President Trump, you are invited. Come and hear our music just as you did for decades.”
For those not familiar with the President’s taste in music, apparently, he was a massive supporter of Young. Looking back to 2008, he discussed the singer with Rolling Stone. Attending numerous Young concerts in New York, he stated, “He’s got something very special. He’s performed for me at my casinos over the years, and he just brings it down. I’ve met him on occasions and he’s a terrific guy.”

That ongoing friendship came to an end in 2016 when Trump ran for President. Never afraid to post his thoughts on his site, Young labeled the Republican a “disgrace”. But that was just the start as he continued, “Your mindless destruction of our shared natural resources, our environment, and our relationships with friends around the world is unforgivable.… Our first black president was a better man than you are…Every time ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ or one of my songs is played at your rallies, I hope you hear my voice.”
Offering a spot to the President, Young noted that Springsteen would also perform in the U.S. the summer. “Bruce Springsteen and many others will be in our country this summer, there for you, playing our favorite music, songs like ‘Born in the USA.’ We are proud of who we are, and must never let our government forget it.”
While the President hasn’t confirmed if he will be attending the concert, he might not even be much of a fan. Back when speaking to Rolling Stone, he couldn’t name his favorite song from Young. “I like the older stuff better, which is typical with a lot of artists — hence the famous Ricky Nelson song ‘Garden Party.’ I like all his songs, you know, ‘Rock and Roll’ — just great stuff.”
