On June 28th, Bryan teased the release of “Songs of London” in an Instagram post that appeared to show him practicing for a performance. He wrote in the caption, “Releasing a song Monday hope u guys don’t hate it, recorded it at bowies old studio across the pond with my best friends, took this photo three years ago at Islington Assembly Hall where I got to sing with Turnpike last night, full circle is a f**kn understatement.”

When Monday finally came, fans wondered where the song was, leading to Rolling Stone to report that Bryan needed some extra time. Sharing the notice in his Instagram Stories, the singer explained, “yoooo decided to put two songs out instead of just one it’s gonna take an extra day!! Songs’ll be out Tuesday sorry sorry sorry.” With one of the songs being “River Washed Hair”, Bryan explained how the new songs didn’t fit on his album or even an EP. “They are kind of just tunes that didn’t belong on the record, and they didn’t fit on an EP either, so I’m just releasing them to get them out into the world cause I love them. Hope you guys enjoy them.”

In true Bryan fashion, he also took a swipe at the critics, adding, “I love each one of ya!! even the folks who talked mad s**t all year.”
