The Doors’ Robby Krieger Marking the Band’s 60th Anniversary with L.A. Concert Showcasing the ‘Morrison Hotel’ Album

In March, Doors guitarist Robby Krieger launched a series of five special monthly concerts celebrating his famous band’s 60th anniversary at the famed Sunset Strip club the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, California. Each of the shows have featured Krieger and his solo group playing a different Doors album in its entirety.

Now, the 79-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has announced a new full-album concert that will take place on October 30 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This show will feature a performance of The Doors’ 1970 album Morrison Hotel, and also will include many of the band’s hits from throughout its career. In addition, the event will feature as-yet-unannounced special guests.

Opening the concert will be Tripform, an electronic-music act featuring Pablo Manzarek, son of late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. Robby’s group, meanwhile, features his own son, Waylon, on lead vocals.

Regarding One Possible Special Guest at Krieger’s Concert

In a message on his social media pages, Krieger teased, “Some of my close friends will be making appearances as well… any guesses on who?!” One of the likely guests could be Doors drummer John Densmore. Densmore, the band’s only other surviving original member, previously made a surprise appearance at Krieger’s Whisky a Go Go concert on April 26. The concert showcased a performance The Doors’ 1971 album L.A. Woman. John played drums on two songs, “The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)” and “Riders on the Storm.”

Meanwhile, on July 30, Krieger posted an Instagram message featuring a photo of Densmore playing with him in April. Accompanying the post was a note that reads, “Forever grateful I get to be on stage with John again, so you guys think we should do it more often?”

Krieger kicked off his series of 60th anniversary gigs at the Whisky a Go Go with a March 29 show featuring a full performance of The Doors’ 1967 self-titled debut.

Following the April 26 concert showcasing L.A. Woman, Krieger and his solo band played Strange Days on May 29, Waiting for the Sun on June 28, and The Soft Parade on July 26.

Besides Densmore, other special guest performers at the shows included Dennis Quaid, Orianthi, and Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins.

More About the Morrison Hotel Album

Morrison Hotel, The Doors’ fifth studio effort, was released in February 1970. It featured the band’s classic song “Roadhouse Blues,” as well as such other enduring tunes as “Waiting for the Sun,” “Blue Sunday,” “Land Ho!,” and “Indian Summer.”

Morrison Hotel peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. It went on to be certified platinum by the RIAA for sales of 1 million copies in the U.S.
