Walsh took part in an August 1 press conference announcing the show at the INTRUST Bank Arena that was livestreamed on the VetsAid’s Facebook page. You can watch a video of the event on the website.
During the conference, Walsh discussed his family ties to Wichita, the death of his father while on active military duty when Joe was only 20 months old, and his desire to help veterans and their families. He also shared some details about the history of VetsAids concerts and the charitable work the organization does.
Also speaking at the conference were Wichita mayor Lily Wu; INTRUST Bank Arena general manager A.J Boleski; and Ryan Baty, commissioner of Kansas’ Sedgwick County.
Statement from Walsh About VetsAid 2025
Walsh issued a separate statement about the 2025 VetsAid, which is the ninth annual edition of the event.
“It’s been a long-term goal of mine since we began VetsAid nearly ten years ago to bring it all home to my native Wichita to serve Kansan veterans and their families,” the 77-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer explained. “It’s where my parents were both born and are buried, where I was born and where I will always feel a deep connection and sense of heritage and responsibility.”
He continued, “It is with great pride and gratitude that our traveling circus of love and community will make a stop in Wichita in 2025 and that I can share the experience with my dear friends who also happen to be some of the greatest American musicians I know: my fellow Eagle Vince Gill, the barnstorming Ryan Bingham, the powerhouse Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks—who also shares family roots in Wichita—and the magnificent Nathaniel Rateliff who will make this year’s show not just a show but a revival. Wichita is the place to be this November 15th!”
More About This Year’s VetsAid and the Event’s History
All net proceeds from the VetsAid concert will be distributed charities supporting veterans’ services. The organizations are selected through a vetting process coordinated in partnership with the Combined Arms Institute. This year’s proceeds will benefit charities exclusively based in Kansas or with operations in the state. Organizations can apply for a chance to receive funds from VetsAid by visiting VetsAid.org/grants.
Nearly every year since 2017, the VetsAid concert has been held in a different city and has featured a eclectic lineup of talented and well-known music acts. In 2021, the show was a remote livestreamed presentation because of the global health crisis. The 2024 concert had been scheduled to take place at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, before it was canceled.
To date, VetsAid has disbursed more than $4 million in grants to veterans charities.
Walsh’s Other 2025 Plans
The only other major concert plans Walsh has this year are the Eagles’ upcoming Las Vegas residency shows at Sphere. Those performances are scheduled for September 5, 6, 12, and 13; October 3, 4, 10, 11, and 31; and November 1, 7, and 8.
