On May 18, 2025, Jamal Roberts watched as his entire life changed in the blink of an eye. Crowned the winner of American Idol season 23, the singer had a short time to celebrate his victory. Although getting a moment on stage, the days that followed took Roberts to Live with Kelly & Mark and Good Morning America. A surreal moment for the singer, he eventually found his way back home. And with the town of Meridian, Mississippi welcoming him with style, Roberts returned to one of his favorite places – Crestwood Elementary.
Working as a physical education teacher at Crestwood Elementary, Roberts often spoke about his love for the students. Willing to help wherever needed, the singer didn’t let his newfound fame stop him from getting back to work. Sharing a video on Facebook Live, a staff member filmed him on “Bus Duty.” She declared, “He loves his Crestwood Family.”

Bringing in thousands of views and comments, fans loved how Roberts never lost his passion for the school and the children. “Love how he’s simple and loves simplicity. I don’t think he cares about being a celebrity. He did this for his children and his town. Love the humility.” Others urged the rising star to get some rest, commenting on how tired he looked.

Jamal Roberts Gives Special Performance In Hometown
The last few weeks have certainly been a whirlwind of sorts for Roberts. But with a record deal now in his hands, he will surely turn his attention to the studio and showcase the talent that helped him win American Idol. And who could forget his growing family? Roberts constantly showered his three daughters with love.
Besides helping the staff at Crestwood Elementary, Roberts posted a video of his return to Mississippi and the welcome he received. Throughout the video, the singer enjoyed a parade, a special celebration at the elementary school, and some kind words from the students.
Roberts also treated his hometown and friends with a special performance. With the surrounding area packed with people, the future looked incredibly bright for the father, teacher, and American Idol.
