Breanna Nix is continuing to shine on the American Idol stage. During Monday night’s episode, the stay-at-home mom delighted the crowd with a performance of “Independence Day.”

The theme of the night was the Judges’ Song Contest. Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan each picked a song for every single contestant to sing. The contestant then picked their choice out of the three options, without knowing which judge suggested the tune.
After her Top 8-securing performance of Adele’s “Water Under the Bridge” the night before, Nix opted to sing Martina McBride’s “Independence Day,” which was Bryan’s choice for her. Her other options were “The Blessing” and “Dangerous Woman.”
“It has that Martina McBride purity,” Bryan told Nix of her voice. “You just displayed that perfectly with that song.”
Richie said the performance was “out of the stratosphere.” Underwood, meanwhile, praised Nix for coming back perfectly after missing a couple of notes.
How American Idol Has Transformed Breanna Nix’s Outlook
In an interview with Parade, Nix revealed how her feelings have changed since she described herself as “just a stay-at-home mom” during her audition for the show.
“I do feel like I belong now,” she said. “When I first came into American Idol, I was hoping that I would just get through the audition, and not even get through to the point of getting a Golden Ticket, but just to make it through that moment.”
Now that she’s made it further than she ever dreamed, Nix said that, “over every round, I feel like I’ve learned a little bit more about myself.”
“Believing in yourself is really weird, but it’s a powerful thing,” she said. “And I’m so happy that I’m finally being able to experience it.”
