Britney Spears Confused Over VMAs and Why Sabrina Carpenter Kissed an Alien

During the surge of teen pop in the music industry, Britney Spears watched as her fame hit new heights. An icon all across the world, the “Princess of Pop” sold over 150 million albums, won numerous awards, and even landed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Having dominated the music industry throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Spears released her last studio album, Glory, back in 2016. Although it has been a few years, the singer keeps fans in the loop about her life thanks to Instagram. Never afraid to share her opinions, Spears recently opened up about her confusion as to why Sabrina Carpenter kissed an alien at the MTV VMAs. 

While Carpenter sprinkled in a few nods to Spears throughout her performance, many couldn’t get past the blue alien that appeared on stage. Dancing around, Carpenter eventually found herself in the arms of the alien as they shared a kiss. Although a small moment in the night’s massive lineup, it was enough to get Spears talking. 

Posting a video on Instagram, the pop star said, “Why is she kissing an alien onstage? I adore her. I love her to death. I didn’t understand that part. Why didn’t she kiss a girl? That was weird. But I also thought that the whole thing was kind of weird altogether.”

Although confusing some, Spears did take a moment to share some love for Carpenter, who mentioned her on the red carpet. “This Sabrina girl, she said my name on the red carpet, and I thought that was kind of cool, because I forget I’m famous sometimes. Because I’m a mom, I’m kind of old, blah blah blah. But that was kind of cool… She said something and I was like, ‘Thanks, that’s cool.’ She made me cool!”

Continuing to show the impact Spears had on the music industry, even Megan Thee Stallion, who hosted the VMAs, took a moment to honor the “Princess of Pop.” Recreating the “I’m a Slave 4 U” outfit, Stallion walked with a python around her. But the moment didn’t last long as she said, “Come get this snake! I don’t know this snake, this snake don’t know me. Oh my God. I tried to hold it down for Britney.”
