Bruce Springsteen Praises the “Fantastic” ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’ Biopic Cast, Says It Was “Interesting” to See His Life Played Out

Bruce Springsteen was interviewed recently for the latest episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, and during the conversation, the Boss chatted a bit about his upcoming biopic, Deliver Me from Nowhere.

As previously reported, the film is based on musician-turned-author Warren Zanes’ 2023 non-fiction novel of the same name. The book looks at Springsteen’s life at the time he made his acclaimed, stripped-down 1982 album, Nebraska.

On how the project came about, Bruce noted that Zanes and Scott Cooper, the film’s director and screenwriter, came to his home and pitched the idea for the movie.

“And I said, ‘Yeah, it sounds like fun. It sounds like an interesting concept,’” Springsteen explained. “[I]t’s only a couple of years out of my life. [It takes place] in ’81, ’82. And it’s centered around the creation of that particular record, while I was simultaneously recording Born in the U.S.A. and also going through some personal difficulties that … I’ve been living with my whole life.”

Springsteen went on to praise the “fantastic” acting done by cast members Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, and Odessa Young. White starred as the Boss, Strong played longtime Springsteen manager Jon Landau, and Young portrayed Bruce’s fictional love interest Faye.

“There [are] great performances in it, and I’m very excited about our audience seeing it,” Springsteen added.

About the Experience of Seeing His Life Recreated for a Film

Bruce also was asked what it was like getting to see a film about his life come together.

“You know, I was on tour during a lot of it, so they filmed a good amount of it, of course, without me there,” Springsteen noted. “And then I was on set sometimes. It was interesting to see it played out, to see your grandmother’s house again, and to go inside and get a general feeling of what it was like when you were very young. So I enjoyed all those parts of it.”

Deliver Me from Nowhere is expected to be released sometime in 2025.

Springsteen on His Plans for His Upcoming Tour

Also during the podcast, Springsteen touched on his plans for his upcoming 2025 European tour with the E Street Band. The 16-date trek runs from a May 14 concert in Manchester, U.K., through a July 3 show in Milan, Italy.

Bruce was asked about how artists such as himself react to the current upheaval and conflict in the U.S. and the world.

“One of the artist’s jobs to make sense of existence and to make sense of the current times that you live in, and to contextualize those times,” he noted. “Every artist does it in a different way. So I’ve got that on my mind, and I’m sure it’ll be reflected in our next leg of the tour.”

Bruce said after completing the European leg, “I’d guess this particular iteration of our touring life is pretty much done.”

Springsteen revealed that he’s also hoping to Australia “if we can make that happen.” He added, “That would hopefully be sometime in the near future, ’cause we have great fans down there. And we miss them.”
