Chris Janson to the rescue! After Nate Smith announced he’d been medically advised to go on a month-long vocal rest, Janson stepped in to take his place at a charity show.

Smith made his disappointing announcement on June 4, just one day before he was scheduled to take the stage at Country Under the Stars, a fundraiser for Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko.
“After trying everything I could do and under the direction of my doctors, I’m now on strict vocal rest through the end of June,” Smith wrote in part. “We’ve all come to the decision that the best way to get my voice fully back is to rest it for the first time in almost five years.”
“It breaks my heart knowing won’t be there to see all of you! My commitment to everyone is to truly rest so I can get back out to do what I love more than anything,” he added. “My voice will absolutely recover, and I’ll be dreaming of the road until then. Promise I’ll make it up to you!”
Chris Janson Performs With Less Than One Day’s Notice
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko wrote on their website that Smith’s condition put them in “quite a predicament.”
“With just 24 hours until showtime, our team has worked quickly to keep the spirit of the night alive — and we’re thrilled to announce that Chris Janson will be stepping in as our headliner for this Thursday’s event,” the organization wrote. “Chris is a dynamic performer and chart-topping country artist known for his electrifying live shows and heartfelt songwriting. His performance is sure to be unforgettable.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko’s statement also shared their wishes for Smith to have a “speedy recovery” from his “sudden medical issue.”
In an Instagram post, Janson opened up about the unusual situation.
“Less than 24hrs ago, We got a call that the artist for Country Under the Stars had to cancel. So we hopped on the plane to Nevada!” he wrote. “Huge thanks to the band & crew who dropped everything to bolt across the country. Elko Nevada, we are Ready TO ROCK & have a great show to support the Boys & Girls Club.”
Janson certainly delivered on that promise, delivering a show that delighted both the organization and attendees.
