Chris Stapleton's new song is for all those friends who've died too young

Every time Chris Stapleton steps onstage, you can bet the combination of his commanding voice and cut-to-the-heart lyrics will bring up some big emotions. That was the case as Chris played a new song, “Broken Halos,” for the folks at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville Feb. 23.

The show took place at the Ryman Auditorium, and Chris shared a few words to introduce the song.

He said, “This is a sort of new song. It’s an old song for me. It’s a song about people who have passed away before their time. I recorded this on the day a friend of mine passed away from pancreatic cancer. He was the same age as me. We played little league together. He was 38 years old. This is for my buddy, Mike.”

Chris’ new album doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s due out May 5. There’s no word on a final track listing, so we don’t know just yet if “Broken Halos” will be included.

Chris also kicks off his All-American Road Show tour May 5 in Atlanta with special guests Brothers Osborne and Lucie Silvas.
