Classic Rock Band Kansas Replaces Longtime Member Billy Greer on 50th Anniversary Tour

For nearly four decades, Billy Greer stood alongside the rock band Kansas as they released several studio albums and entertained fans all over the world. While formed during the 1970s, Greer eventually found his way into the band that recorded hit songs like “Carry on Wayward Son.” Although enjoying his time in the spotlight, the musician recently announced his retirement. With Greer leaving Kansas, the band moved to fill his spot. And while missing the bassist, Kansas announced the newest member of the band.

Billy Greer Gets Special Thanks From Kansas

Reassuring fans the music they love will continue on, McGowan added, “I want the fans to know that I love the music of KANSAS, and I hold it in highest reverence. I am committed to doing justice to the band’s incredible legacy, and I am so grateful for this unbelievable opportunity!”

2024 has been somewhat of a turbulent year for Kansas as drummer Phil Ehart suffered a heart attack back in February. Although he remains part of the band, his position went to Eric Holmquist.

Still, with lineup changes over the last few months, fans continue to praise the band and the new addition of McGowan. “I’ve heard great things about his performances filling in for Mr Greer. Welcome to the wheat field Dan.” Another person added, “Welcome, Dan! One thing is certain, when Kansas adds a new member they are simply the best talent on the planet and now they are playing the best music! Just saw you perform with Kansas at the Louisville, KY show and it was stellar!”

As for Greer, he received some love for Kansas as the band wrote in a statement, “The band Kansas and its entire organization extend heartfelt gratitude to Billy for his decades of exceptional musicianship,”
