Ella Langley recently appeared on The God’s Country Podcast and divulged much information about her impending sophomore album. In short, Langley provided viewers with the motive behind the album, how far along it is in its creation, and the legendary country artists inspiring it. Which she cited as George Jones and Ronnie Milsap.

Furthermore, Langley also noted the importance her Alabama roots will have on this album. She stated on the podcast, “With this next record, I kinda wanna show that side a little more of me. The Alabama, who is Ella Langley” and “Not just the songwriter or the artist, but the human being.” That being so, in the same podcast, Langley doubled down and further bolstered her southern roots by performing a cover of John Conlee’s “Rose Colored Glasses.”
The performance struck an emotional chord with fans who took to social media to sing Langley’s praises.
“She has the most raw beautiful grit to her voice. Like hits your soul!! Thanks for this. Loved it!” one fan wrote. Another admitted the cover made them shed a few tears, typing “crying before 10 am.”
Ella Langley Takes Us Back to The ’80s
Given that Langley noted that her two inspirations for her sophomore album include Jones and Milsap, it makes sense that another ’80s country music legend has been popping into her mind. For context, John Conlee was a major player in the ’80s country music scene thanks to songs “Friday Night Blues,” “Common Man,” and “Backside of Thirty.” Additionally, Conlee graced the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts a total of 32 times.
Given Conlee’s late ’70s and ’80s prominence, and the sound Langley is seemingly going for on her newest album, she very well might have given fans a little sneak peek at the sound she hopes to capture with the cover. On the podcast, Langley and the host, Dan Isbell, broke out singing Conlee’s all-time biggest hit and stunned the world of country music.
Ella Langley has already had an incredible career in a short time. However, this cover seemingly articulates a transition she is trying to make in her career. “You Look Like You Love” is a massive hit and primarily what put her on the map, though, now that she has people’s attention she is going to sing and play the music close to her and her roots. Ella Langley puts it all out there on this cover and reminds folks that classic country is not dead yet.
